How do I calculate my savings on my National Grid bill with Grand Island Community Solar?

Your solar credits are subtracted from your bill as "Community Net Metering Adjustment." The cost of your credits is added back in as "CDG Subscription Fee." The savings are the difference between the two.

National Grid Bill for Grand Island - Savings Explained (2)

When you review your National Grid bill as a Grand Island community solar subscriber, you may notice a few new line items. Here’s how to read them and understand what they mean.

1. Start with Your Regular Electricity Charges

At the top of your bill, you’ll see your normal electric charges from National Grid, including:
  • Supply charges (the electricity you use)
  • Delivery charges (bringing that electricity to your home or business)
These charges are calculated the same way they always have been.

2. Look for the Community Solar Credit

Next, find the line item labeled:
Community Net Metering Adjustment
This amount represents the full value of the solar energy produced by your share of the community solar project during the billing period. This credit is applied directly to your bill and reduces what you owe to National Grid.

Think of this credit like a payment made on your behalf.

3. Review the CDG Subscription Fee

You’ll also see a line item called the CDG Subscription Fee.

Your CDG Subscription Fee is not an extra charge—it’s simply how your community solar savings are calculated and shown on your National Grid bill.

If you compare the solar credits applied to your bill with the subscription fee, you’ll always see a net benefit. You receive a guaranteed 10% discount on the value of the electricity produced by your share of the solar project.

You do not receive a separate bill, and this is not an extra, out-of-pocket fee.

4. Confirm Your Savings

Your savings are the difference between:
  • The solar credit, (Community Net Metering Adjustment) and
  • The CDG subscription fee

Example:

$305.49 + $446.39 = $751.88 (Adding together your net metering adjustments)

$751.88 - $676.69 = $75.19 (Your savings are the difference between the two)

Even though both amounts appear on your bill, the net result is a lower total balance due.

5. What You Should (and Shouldn’t) See

✅ One National Grid bill
✅ Clear line items showing credits and fees
✅ Guaranteed savings every month

❌ No extra invoices ❌ No hidden charges ❌ No changes to your electric service or reliability
